ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice is focused on film and photography. In my work, I reflect on the behaviour and mannerisms society has developed considering the digital age, by providing a feminine perspective on how these circumstances affect the women of today.
The Internet has provided society the opportunity to share information with an immense audience, and as a result, countless conversations and conflicts transpire.
My practice is inspired by this newly developed human behaviour that resides on social media platforms, and attempts to translate these dialogues occurring on the internet in to images.
Common themes explored in my work include pop culture, politics, and attitudes towards women – themes that are prominent in online conversations.
Visual language is created through the exploration of the relationship between substance and subject– capturing the fluidity of the substance in my images.
The substance is representative to various issues in society, and throughout the development of my practice has been adapted to portray these appropriately. The subject in the images also varies; having previously utilised sign language, and the female nude.
By using this approach, I allow my practice to synchronise with a constantly changing society, and in result I anticipate to continue developing my work alongside society's digital developments.
As my practice is always adapting, the range of artists that I relate to alters, but I consider artists such as Esmay Wagemans and Eva O'Leary main influences in my work.
